Funding Outlook for VA Improves
On November 17th, the Senate passed a budget bill for fiscal 2010 which contains a 9 percent increase in veterans health care funds and the first advance appropriation for the VA — a $48.2 billion down payment for the department in 2011, so veterans program coordinators won’t have to worry as much about lengthy budget delays next year.
It also includes $2.1 billion for OIF/OEF veterans needs, $580 million for prosthetics and traumatic brain injury research, $183 million to focus on female veterans health care needs and $3.2 billion for the start of the VA’s goal of ending homelessness among vets in five years.
Hopefully, the bill will receive final approval before year end.
