Tony, We refer you to Amputee Coalition of America's website, where they list organizations that accept donations of prosthetic limbs. Thanks to Glenn Standage for this information. Click here for a link to the webpage.

Tony,
Thank you for your comment. We have received multiple requests from individuals who would like to donate prosthetic limbs that are no longer being used. We are still trying to figure out who can use them. As I understand it, the issue is that there needs to be a prosthetist to fit the limbs, and the limbs do tend to be designed specifically for individuals. So finding someone willing and able to collect, store, transport and then fit an assortment of limbs is not easy. However, maybe if we get this discussion going, we will find someone who has a good answer, and a way to put these limbs to use.

I recently wrote to "Partners in Health" about donating 2 prosthetic legs for amputees in Haiti. I explained that they were used by my father, are perfect condition, even have the socks for them. All that. Partners in Health wrote me back and said they "didn't need them". Huh? This was after I saw the story on CNN telling about the hundreds of thousands of amputees who were in dire need of prosthetic devices. I understand that these legs are not "child size", but so what? Are there not adults who are in need of prosthetic limbs, also?

I know that these legs are adjustable as far as height because I have watched my father's prosthetic technician do it numerous times at the beginning. I also know it's not a big deal to have a new insert made that fits the amputee's stump and the prostheses. That has to cost way less than making a whole new leg. Or, is that what they really want to do? Is everything just so corrupt that they would rather waste precious tax dollars making new legs no matter what?
